Fake Criterions has just signed an exclusive agreement with Geocities to deliver our content to a wider audience. A rendering of the proposed site is above.
We love Tumblr, and they are still one of Fake Criterions’ most important partners, but Geocities demonstrated a real commitment that persuaded us they would be the better choice. It has never been easy to find Fake Criterions covers on Tumblr — have you tried to use that search box up there? Compare that with Geocities’ search engine (snappy even at 28k speeds!), willingness to devote a whole directory of their SoHo server to us, create a Fake Criterions-branded animated e-mail box gif, and possibly add the capability for a second font for the page at some point in Q2 2012.
We chose to make a deal with Geocities because we feel the Fake Criterions brand will in the long run be better represented there. As we put up more fake DVD covers - we felt that the treatment of the brand and flexibility within Geocities would enable us to provide a better user experience at the end of the day. We will continue to support Tumblr, but all of the Fake Criterions that are currently on Tumblr will be down by the end of the year.
Good night, thank you, and god bless America.
